Units

I got a lot of enjoyment from a conversation that just occurred in lab. I hope you do too!:

Solomon: Does anyone know the conversion between acres and hectares?

Meg: Ooh, tricky. I don't think there's a set acre. Acres come in lots of different sizes... You can try googling it, google does conversions.

Erin [googling away]: An acre is 160 square rods! Oh! and poles!

Meg: So... there's a poles and rods unit of measurement... If a foot is based on the size of a king's foot, then what is a rod based on?... I think you know where I'm going with this... Or a pole, for that matter?

Mike [chiming in]: Isn't a rod like 16 feet?

Meg & Erin: Convulsed in giggles.

eventually...

Meg: I can't breathe! Thank you, Mike! [and a little later, after a lot more giggling] Wow, that's very kingly!
