Alma mater and then some

It would appear that I like to make lists. (I think it must be hereditary.) I'm about to treat you to another one! Last week you got all the Nobel winning authors that I've read enumerated for you, but that's not the only group of authors I'm interested in right now. Another set that I'm particularly fond of is Stanford affiliated authors. Perhaps I'm biased, but I have yet to find a Stanford author I don't like! Here are the ones that I've read (in no particular order), and their links to that glorious institution:
  1. John Steinbeck, intermittent student (ooh, he made both lists!)
  2. Wallace Stegner, faculty
  3. Vladimir Nabokov, faculty (briefly)
  4. Nicole Krauss, student
  5. Vikram Seth, graduate student
  6. Jeffrey Eugenides, graduate student
  7. Michael Cunningham, student
And of course, there's "Shrek guy", who told me he'd written a novel but wouldn't tell me what it was about (hmmm). I haven't read it, but then, I do search amazon for him periodically just in case ;D.

Do you know of any other Stanford authors? Please share them with me! I'd love to add to my collection.

I have to move today/tomorrow. Yuck. The worst part is that we have to move out today (and fortunately we're allowed to interpret "today" as Colleen would for a history paper: as long as we're out of the way by tomorrow morning we're ok), but we can't move in to our new apartment until 6 tomorrow evening. We have a truck reserved, primarily to use as storage for that day of homelessness, but cross your fingers that it comes through. You see, when we made the reservation they told us that they had a truck to reserve for us, but it may not be available when the time comes because the people using it before us may not return it on time. O..k... I'm hoping that they were just saying that to cover their ass on the off chance the truck isn't back. We'll find out soon enough!

We're moving to the most desirable apartment complex in Davis, yet somehow dsl isn't available there. Anyone else notice an incrongruity in that last sentence? We're still trying to decide what to do for internet, so we'll try out dial up for the first little while before we (most likely) suck it up and pay the high price for cable internet. Both my roommate and I are addicted to highspeed internet. And I found when Cassie canceled the dsl that I lose at least an hour of productivity a day in lab when I can't play around online at home. Basically, you all should be warned that I might not update this blog too much in the next little while.

Everything always works out in the end, so I'm sure we'll get everything moved over to the new place without too much lasting trauma. I can't wait till it's over. I'm so excited to unpack! Most of my stuff has been in boxes for 2.5 months since I moved here from Woodland (Stanford Alumni Association boxes, speaking of the alma mater (thank you Colleenie for giving me these boxes 4 years ago since I'm not actually a member of the alumni association)). Soon all my books will be on their shelves again! All my postcards will be on their wall again! And speaking of postcards, make sure you get my new address so you can start sending me more! ;D
