Merde

Performance time is upon us. Tomorrow we go to the theatre for teching and blocking. Thursday is dress rehearsal. And our 3-show run of Peter and the Wolf, Smooth Criminal, and all the other (unimportant =D) nonballet pieces starts Friday night.

Typically, very few people have come to see my ballet recitals in Davis. Or rather, very few people have come for me. Jenny brought a gang of people to the first one, there were only 2 last June, and absolutely no one last February or July. It's one of those bittersweet things to not have an audience. To be honest, I don't actually want anybody to come. But when you're up there performing, the supreme knowledge that there is absolutely nobody out there for you can be a little discouraging.

So far I have 15 people coming this weekend. Yikes! I'm not entirely sure about this enormity of response. I sent out an email announcement to my labmates and a few friends, because I feel obligated to at least inform them of my performances, but I was not shy about stating that I wouldn't actually endorse going (unless they have a masochistic tropism towards amateur dance). Yet still, quite a few people expressed interest. Which isn't really so unusual. A year ago, plenty of people said that they would come (1 of them had even been asking about it for months already and was putting on quite a show of excitement), but all changed their minds at the last minute. This year I have them trapped. I told them that the show would probably sell out (which is what Cara and Pam say, though it might just be wishful thinking), so they would have to get their tickets in advance. Now they still may or may not go, but if they don't, they're out $5!
