White Album, disc 1, track 10

Mitzi's going through a rough time. Poor kitty. She's very stressed out. There are just too many other animals, and too many other cats in particular, in my house. Ozzie's always been a pain to her. (How I miss those early days when he was kind of afraid of her!) And though she was always a little on edge when he was around, she dealt with it. But now we have another cat... And even though Chula doesn't do anything to Mitzi, she's apparently the last straw. Mitzi's become very stressed out. She plays can't touch the floor almost constantly, spending all her time on my desk, bookshelf, bed, or hopping between them. Which is problematic since her litterbox is on the floor. She's started a new trend of peeing on my bed. She's done it 4 or 5 times in the past few months.

So this is necessarily putting me through a rough time. Of course you don't realize that there's cat pee (one of the foulest liquids nature has produced) on your bed until you crawl under the covers, so tired you could cry, only to discover there's no rapid repose since you have to launder all your bedding! I've had to have my comforter dry cleaned twice now. The first time I didn't mind, since it really needed it anyway (lots of cat puke stains), but it's getting expensive! Now I'm experimenting with the wonders of Febreze. (Fortunately since I never make my bed, the comforter doesn't always get contaminated.)

To combat this, I'm shutting Mitzi alone in my room whenever I'm not at home and when I'm sleeping. This seems to help, but it hasn't completely solved the problem. I guess I'll just keep the door shut more often. Especially if I'm out of the room for any extended time. I don't really like this strategy, but it seems the best alternative. Mitzi really just needs to be the only pet in a house, but giving away any of the cats isn't an option. I suppose I could try the happy cat pheromones again, and maybe I will if it continues to be a problem. Cara had a big problem with her cat spraying, and ended up giving him Prozac. She wasn't too keen on the idea initially, but it's been such a perfect success she now swears by it. That's not really an option for Mitzi, however. Cara's cat is docile enough to allow you to give him pills. Mitzi is not. It was a battle (and she nearly beat both Jenny and me) to get her to take the sedative before the plane trip to California.

Yarrr.

And on top of all that, I think I might be getting a cold.

  • At least the one thing that Mitzi has going for her is that she's the cutest cat in the world...
