Ringing it in (updated)
New Year's Eve is usually an occasion that I celebrate a little bit differently than most. Maybe it's another symptom of my crazy-cat-ladyness? Unless, by some miracle, I actually have plans, I like to celebrate the new year with a traditional midnight bubblebath (yes, I bathe on an annual basis =P). It doesn't really make sense any more, but it was a much appreciated luxury when I was in college. Showers are really the only option in dorms. The dorms that I lived in for my first 3 years only had showers. Kimball, my senior year, actually did have a bathtub, but it was rumored to be horribly disgusting and people only used it if it was medically necessary (right Campbellina?). So being home for the holidays was really the only chance I got for long, lingering bubblebaths. And even though I have a bathtub now, and take advantage of it frequently, the habit for a new year's bubblebath has stuck.
Sometimes, when I can't help it =), there's a little variety to this tradition. Two years ago I had food poisoning on New Year's Eve. It hit just before midnight, and even though it only lasted about 20 minutes, it was a distinctly unpleasant 20 minutes! So my midnight bath was a little bit late that year.
This year I have to pick John up at the airport at 10, which shouldn't interfere with any midnight plans. John catsits for me often enough (he's such a sucker), so I really owe it to him to pick him up. And the airport's only about 15 minutes from my house, so it really is very convenient for me. Plus, it offers an excellent excuse should anyone invite me to any parties I don't want to attend! (Yeah, I'm a crazy cat lady =D.) I'm thinking of having a little fun with it though. I'm trying to decide if I should get really dressed up to go to the airport. Make everyone else there think that I'm on my way to some really fancy, high-class fete. What do you guys think? My only concern is the weather. If it's raining (which it most likely will be) I'll definitely go casual.
