Always the stand-in, never the bride

I guess it's about time to make good on my promise to fill in the rest of my trip to Georgia. It's been over a month now! How much do I remember? Hmmm...

It was great being back in Athens. I loved catching up with friends and going to my favorite restaurants and taking a ballet class from my home studio (Athens School of Ballet). I stayed with 2 of the bridesmaids (2 of my closest friends from high school), who are now sharing an apartment together. Such fun! I got to tag along with them to the rehearsal for Talia's wedding since I was going to the rehearsal dinner. I planned on reading quietly at the back of the church, but they thought up a special role for me to have during the rehearsal (I seem to be getting a lot of special roles made for me these days!). I got to be the stand-in bride! That way Talia could stand back to get a better view of everyone and help decide where for everyone in the wedding party to stand.

Being stand-in bride was fun, though I didn't get any of the usual bridal perks. Talia's dad didn't kiss me on the cheek when he gave me away and the minister totally skipped the "you may kiss the bride" part. I still puckered up, and cracked up the mother of the bride and everyone else who happened to be paying attention to me. When I complained about the lack of a kiss the best man said that he thought it was his job to kiss the stand-in bride. Hmmm. Perhaps. I'm not really sure what the protocol is.

The rehearsal dinner was really good. And of course, the wedding itself was very nice. I got to sit with Olivia at both, which was awesome. I can't imagine when the last time I saw her was! It can't have been more recent than 5 or 6 years ago. We decided that Talia was going to have to renew her vows every 4 months just so that there would be a reason for all of us who are now scattered all over to get together frequently.

I could mention other things that happened in Georgia, but they probably wouldn't be of general interest. I have several anecdotes about the ballet class I took, but since I don't think any of you are actually ballet dancers, that probably would just bore you. Anyway, it's long past my bedtime, according to both Georgia and California time zones, so night night!
