Sweet lovin' for you!
Happy Valentine’s Day! Not that I’m really that into this “holiday”. I don’t really like getting flowers (they die, they mold, and then you have to pour out the stinky flower water and wash the vase while suppressing your gag reflex), and if you’re going to give me chocolate, why not do it year round?! And then there’s the obvious complaint that it’s a Hallmark holiday that’s eliminating any original expressions of romance. I wonder: is it clichéd to complain about clichés?
I’m sure that my ideas concerning what is romantic are trite and unoriginal, I’m a child of pop-culture after all; but at least they don’t include token gestures of a dozen roses given solely out of a sense of obligation. Romantic-ness, to me, is driven entirely by the chemistry between 2 people: that excited zinging back and forth. So since all you really need for a romantic moment is the presence of that other person, I prefer simplicity and spontaneity. I would love a starlit walk hand-in-hand in some beautiful place! Sure, that’s also clichéd, but at least it isn’t over-hyped or rife with expense or anxiety over whether (s)he’ll like it or not! I also don’t think that any of my few boyfriends ever took me for one, losers. I thought Ben was going to once, but apparently when he suggested “let’s go for a walk,” what he meant was down to the basement so he could do laundry, and he needed me to unlock the door. Punk.
So what am I doing for Valentine’s Day? Right now I’m burning DVDs of some imagery for a national lab while listening to an awesome band my sister introduced me to: Carbon Leaf. In half an hour or so I’m meeting with a committee member who’s been in Belize and is the last signature I need before turning in my qualifying exam petition. Then I have a couple of lab and project meetings. After that I’ll probably go home to study, and then ballet.
I’m also trying to teach Mitzi how to give shiatsu massages. She’s learning… So far she’s really good at being a heating pad, but not so good on massaging since she generally picks a spot on my back and hunkers down there.
Sock of the day!! Luv Bugs! They’re white socks, with black and pink luv bugs holding red and pink hearts, flowers, and kiss marks in each of their legs. Technically, they aren’t bugs at all: they have 8 legs. So they’re really love arachnids. Even if they had 6 legs, they might not be bugs though. True bugs belong to the orders Hemiptera and Homoptera. See, I did get something from those many hours of sorting bugs way back in Summer 1998! And now I’m sharing it with you. Awwww.

Wow, laundry...now that sounds like the "chemistry" you're talking about! Surfactants, heat-catalyzed reactions... Yup, I bet that things get pretty steamy in those laundry rooms! ;)
