Fun with macros
My job for the Georgia fieldwork was navigator/photographer. The idea is that if you take pictures of every site you GPS, they'll help you remember the details of that site, which may explain some subtleties of the data or something like that. Since one tree covered with kudzu looks much like any other kudzu-draped tree, you take a picture of your feet between each site so that you know what pictures correspond to what site. So basically we ended up with hundreds of nondescript, ho-hum, rarely in sharp focus, pictures of plants and my feet. Ok... Some of the feet pictures are pretty interesting because I started to take really random foot pictures to surprise Ed when he goes through the data. Some of the best ones are of: 1) My foot on the roof of the 4runner, next to the giant antenna; 2) My foot being run over; 3) My foot being engulfed by kudzu; 4) My foot perilously close to an unsuspecting Ed's head, etc...
I did take some "artistic" pictures, however (artistic when compared to my foot, at any rate). There isn't really any breathtaking scenery at Fort Benning, so they're mostly extreme close-ups of plants. Check 'em out! "Fort Benning Fieldwork" folder in the October 2004 album.
