Zoltan

It seems that there are a lot of Riverdance-esque shows these days. I don't think I ever actually saw Riverdance (except for on PBS). I think my mom and I might have gone to see Lord of the Dance once, but I can't quite remember. And I saw another, non-Michael Flatley Irish dance performance at Stanford, that seemed to have a very similar format (alternating dance and music numbers).

I suppose it isn't so surprising that these kinds of shows aren't restricted to the Irish. A couple years ago I saw an Argentinian "Riverdance", featuring tango and passionate accordian music. (You might snigger at that, but man, you never saw that accordian player...) Last night John and I went to a Gypsy "Riverdance". It was pretty cool. Generally, it's more fun to watch the men dance than the women. This is because the women wear very long skirts, so you can't actually see what they're doing. Of course, the exception is that it's way cooler when a woman spins. John proved that he knows me very well. During the finale, he leaned over and whispered "You want one of those skirts, don't you?" just as I was thinking to myself "Man, those skirts are cool! I bet I could make one (if I learn how to use a sewing machine). It's just a circle skirt...".

The big thing I got out of last night's performance is that I've decided to name my firstborn son Zoltan. John's very glad that he has no intentions of marrying me, and feels a little sorry for whoever I manage to snag. But come on! Isn't it a cool name? Zoltan! Now you guys had better not steal it from me and name all of your sons Zoltan (though I'm sure the temptation to do so is profound). I won't have my Zoltan living with the most popular baby name of the year 2000whatever!

In other news...

* Crisis has been averted by the internet. Yay!

* I'm becoming quite a bad student and plan on ditching my evolution section today. Freedom!

* Ozzie has learned how to turn on lights. It was really spooky at first. We thought our dining room must be haunted since the light kept turning on by itself.
