Persimmon cookies
There are a lot more fruits in California than in Georgia. (That statement's probably true however you choose to interpret it ;-) ). I don't know if I'd even heard of a persimmon before I followed my manifest destiny (go west, young man!). I'd certainly never had one until about a month ago when a friend brought one to class and let me have a bite. Not bad! That's part of the reason why I was excited to see them at a fruitstand on my way back to Yosemite. A new fruit! Adventure fruit!
Today I decided to be even more adventurous and make cookies out of the rest of my persimmons. They've been getting kind of mushy, past the eat plain stage. But just right for puree-ing into cookies! Never had a persimmon cookie before... Adventure cookies! They turned out well, I think. I like them, at least. Funnily, they didn't smoosh out in the oven (like chocolate chip cookies do), so they look kind of like macaroons, or little cream puffs or something. They taste a little bit like how I would expect a pumpkin cookie to taste. I guess because of the cloves.... Not bad, not bad!
We're going into finals week. I have a pretty low-key finals schedule. My only two exams are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Which gives me plenty of time to leisurely study. So I took the weekend off. It's been great. I got to run some errands (a little bit of Christmas shopping, a little bit of grocery shopping, a little bit of getting treats for myself =D), finish a long book I've been reading for a while, read a shorter book in it's entirety, bake cookies, and talk to Colleenie for a long time on her birthday!! And of course spend quality time with my kitten.
Ozzie update: Ozzie's definitely growing quickly. I hadn't really noticed, since I see him everyday, but now that my attention has been drawn to it, it's pretty obvious. Good thing too, considering how much kitten-chow he puts away! He's also developing the markings he'll have as an adult cat. His sides and legs are getting stripier. Happily, he seems to be retaining his leopard tummy spots. He's definitely going to continue being a beauty. A stunner. A lady-killer =D.
