A tangled web?

I am pleased to announce the arrival of a new trophic level to my aquarium. We have detritivores! I got some ghost shrimp to eat the poop and other fishie debris, so that it won't be so gross when they get their monthly cleaning. The shrimpies are Goliath (Golly for short) and PeeWee.

Unfortunately, PeeWee came through the car ride a little worse for the wear. I believe he was roughed up a bit by Goliath. The big meanie. He was still alive and hopping around when I added them to the tank, but he'd lost his shell somehow, and preferred lying upside down. Then Goliath started eating his tail. Just doing his job, I suppose, cleaning up the tank. Though PeeWee didn't seem to be entirely gone yet. But he was close. Poor little guy. He died shortly after. I decided to flush him, rather than leave the cleaning to Goliath. I didn't want the fishies to get any bad ideas about nibbling on shrimps being ok...

So now there's only one shrimpy. Sadness. The fishies are all very interested in him. Aristotle keeps looming up and tapping him with his feeler! The shrimp responds with his own taps. Napoleon, who's been turned into a bit of a skulker by Aristotle prefers to just follow Goliath around. But Golly seems to be a scrappy little guy, and was probably the cause of poor PeeWee's death, so I'm sure he'll be ok. And I guarantee that the aquarium can support a detritivore considering the quantity of poop those dirty fishies squirt out!
