Culinary adventures in graduate school
I've actually been eating pretty well this quarter. Not too many nights of scrambled eggs or quesadillas... I'm lucky. I don't mind ruts. So I cook something on Monday, eat it for the rest of the week, go out on weekends, and that's pretty much it. It works out well. Yesterday I diverged from my rut a little bit by going to a new restaurant! This is a major thing for me =).
But my little dinner scheme didn't work out for me today... I didn't really feel like driving to Davis for dinner. And since I was too lazy to go out to eat, I was much too lazy to cook a real dinner since that would require driving to Davis to get groceries on top of the whole cooking part. So I became creative. Necessity is the mother of invention, right? Oh boy, and my invention was surely a work of art!
I concocted what I like to call "egg drop ramen". Mmmm. French Laundry's got nothing on this! ;-) To get another food group I threw in some sautéd celery. For the fourth food group, I washed it all down with coke. It actually wasn't too bad! But it's strange. I've always been allergic to MSG, yet somehow I've never been sensitive to ramen, despite the fact that it's just rife with MSG. But today, with egg drop ramen, that old allergy reared its immunological head. Very odd. I guess MSG itself is not an allergen for me, but rather, MSG acting synergistically with anything remotely containing nutritional value. Definitely strange. But anyway, it's pretty mild, as far as allergies go, so there's no worry of an early, MSG-induced death (which I'm sure you're desperate to hear...).
