All in a Saturday's work

Wow, I've been pretty derelict of my weblog duties lately. And I no longer have the excuse of home associated boredom/melancholy. But really, not much has happened in the past week. Not that that ever really stopped me before. Hmmm. Maybe I've lost my knack for sensationalizing and broadcasting the trivial happenings of my daily life. Gosh, I hope not! I certainly won't be much of a conversationalist, or blog host, anymore if that's the case. (the world breathes a sigh of relief).

So anyway, just to keep in practice, here I go, sensationalizing my Saturday! Wheee.

Well, the day started with a bang. Quite literally. Many repetitions of a bang in fact, as the neighbor's dog whammed repeatedly into the fence separating our yards. This habit of hers merits a sensational entry all its own, so I'll withhold further details. So I was brutally ripped from slumber at 7:30ish, a most ungodly hour of a Saturday morning. Lamentably, I was in the middle of one of the best sets of dreams I've had in a long time. I don't remember if they were extraordinarily weird, though I think not. They were just happy. While there are many times I beg to differ with Walt Disney's Cinderella as she sings "a dream is a wish your heart makes", as I frequently have utterly bizarre dreams, this sequence was surely a wish. And as such, I am not at liberty to divulge the dreamy contents here.

The dog continued her percussions for a half hour. Thankfully I returned to slumber at their termination, but alas, I was unable to retrace my steps into my wishy-dreamy world. Instead I was treated to more of the same ol' bizarreness that is my slumbering consciousness. This was punctuated intermittently by barks, howls, and other-wordly canine noises for the next two hours. After some little more time I managed to convince myself to get up.

The remainder of the morning departed little from routine. No email save a few viruses sent to the departments list, read my comics online, play computer games, send a harrassing, though respectful email to the professor who has STILL not written a letter of recommendation for me that was due a month ago... You know, the usual =).

This business of recommendations reminded me that I have a couple more applications due on Wednesday, huzzah! These are pretty laid back, though. Since I'm a first year student, I get to reuse most of the material I sent in with my application last year. All I have to do is get more recommendations from my advisor (not the flake), and write a new personal statement. Which shouldn't be too bad. I plan on chopping up, randomizing, and melding together several previously written statements. All in a day's work. Just some other day's =). Though I requested the recommendation from my advisor... Probably 5 days is about the bare minimum one should give a reference and expect a good recommendation. Though I'm sure she's doing the exact same thing with old recs she's written for me that I'm doing for the personal statement.

That taken care of, I proceeded to figure out how to track down an official transcript. Which welcomed me to the hell that is the registrar of any university other than Stanford. Stanford was wonderful. Amazing. Wonderfully amazing. We had only to go online and fill out a form to request a transcript. Said transcript would then be mailed the next day free of charge. Oh, heaven. Davis is not so on top of things. They've hired out an internet mercenary, so at least I can request a transcript online. But I'm charged $6 (six!), more if it must be rushed. The transcript won't be mailed out for about a week, and that's only after the registrar's office has received a written and signed authorization from me. Good grief.

So that's taken care of. The transcript's not going to get there in time, but I don't care. I wasn't going to pay still more for a service that should be free. And I don't think it matters terribly much for this application anyway.

Then I had lunch and proceeded to the library, where I chained myself to a desk to study for this horrid qual I have coming up. Shudder. I actually got a decent amount of work done. Go me!

Well. I guess that was mostly my day. There are a couple other trivial events I could sensationalize, but I feel I've already been long winded enough, so I'll spare you. For now... (ominous music) =)
