What Would Jesus Drive?!?
"Chevrolet is encouraging people to buy automobiles which are poisoning God's creation." I don't know what to think. This is just too weird.
I heard about this because I straggled out to the family room last night to watch the last half of Law and Order, and was too lazy to move afterwards. The news sucked me in. I really hate tv news programs. They have these teasers for stories you actually want to see before every commercial break. Of course, those stories inevitably are broadcast during the last 2 minutes of the program, so you're forced to watch the news. Ugh. How am I supposed to maintain my bubble in the face of such trickery?
Basically, environmental Christian groups are staging an anti-SUV campaign with the catch phrase "What Would Jesus Drive?". (you remember all the WWJD paraphenalia of the mid 90s, right? Or maybe it wasn't so conspicuous where you were than it was in the Southeast...) And you know, I think it's probably a good thing. An appeal to religion might be the most effective way to increase environmental awareness. It's that appeal to religion part that doesn't really sit well though. I have nothing wrong with religion... But it plays a different role for different people... As a wannabe-scientist, I guess I feel that people should have formulated environmental opinions based on hard science, not these touchy-feely religious appeals. Oh well. I guess there's no constitutional separation of church and pollution, or something like that.
So anyway, what drew my attention to these news teasers, forcing me to watch the news, was shots of a Prius driving around with the WWJD slogan. Now apparently I share automotive taste not only with Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio, but also with Jesus. Not sure what I think about that...
