The Goats You *
Well. Thanksgiving is nigh upon us. And I don't know about you, but I'm thankful to be getting out of Davis. I don't quite know where I'll be spending my holiday, but it won't be here, and that's all that matters. I have to say I welcome the break. Which might come as a little bit of a shock. If you've been keeping up with me, you know I've done very little work in the past week. So really, what difference will it make? I seriously should be working though... Post-Thanksgiving academic death is a well known phenomenon, and it is certain to strike. Blech.
Since I will be gone to places unknown over the break, and most likely will not update this, I figured I should post now so that I won't be presumed dead. This is a difficult task, however. What on earth can I possibly write about? I lead a boring life... Nothing entertaining enough to proclaim online has happened lately...
I guess the closest is that I successfully went swing dancing in Davis on Sunday. It actually was fun, but I don't think it's that great of a scene. First of all, the cover charge was $7.50! That's a lot of money... Every other swing club I've been to, and invariably they've been better than this one, has been cheaper unless there's a live band. But $7.50's ok for an occasional thrill... On the whole, the dancers were good too.
The main problem was that it was extremely cliquey. I think this is mostly because it was a predominantly high school aged crowd. Not a single person asked me to dance. Ghastly! And I have it on good authority (my own) that I was cute that night ;-). Luckily, I had friends there to goad me on, so at their prompting I would ask guys to dance. I hate asking guys to dance... But even still, I spent way too much time as a wall flower. A lot of the rest of the time was teaching my friends how to swing dance and dancing lead with them (there was only 1 guy out of the 5 of us, so I became a designated man). The dj played "Jitterbug Stroll" though, so that made my night =). They played a shim-sham too, but I'm hopeless at that if I don't have Donia to watch...
So yeah. I haven't really decided how much I'll frequent the place. There's the possibility that if I become a regular, people will start to recognize me, associate me with themselves, and ask me to dance. But it's also likely that they spurn me, forcing me to ask guys to dance... That's not worth $7.50... The one huge benefit is that it's right next door to pearl milk tea!
*I couldn't think of a title today, so rather than exert any effort over it, I consulted a random title generator. Good wholesome fun!
