Mission control, we've got ... tourists?
Yep, I'm one of those... One of those people that talks about their dreams. Last night was just a doozy for weird dreams! I guess what they say about reading before you go to sleep is true... Here's the dream that stuck in my head the best:
I was with the Odyssey group (the Odyssey was the orientation trip to various research stations in California my department (for lack of a better word) organized) and we were apparently in Cape Canaveral. For whatever reason (ask Freud, not me), my mom was along too. All of a sudden, a space shuttle took off from not too far away from us!
I used to be really into this stuff when I was a kid, used to want to be an astronaut, so in my dream I was remembering factoids about a shuttle launch. Things like after 2-3 minutes the rocket boosters are jettisoned. At 7 minutes, the enormous fuel tank is released as well. I have no idea if these are the right statistics, they're just what I happened to recall in my dream. This dream shuttle was weird though. In addition to those 2 time points, it also ejected the main hull at about 30 seconds after launch. Weird.
So, very shortly after witnessing the launch, this huge white thing comes careening down towards us, narrowly misses my mom, and comes to a rest not far away. My mom sprints off to retrieve her camera, and is not to be seen again in this dream.
We all think this is the coolest thing ever, and race over to investigate it. It had landed inside some sort of junkyard or warehouse or something. I had a camera, so I became the group photographer to take a picture of everyone in front of it. But apparently we're not the only people to have this idea. George Bush also decides to have a photo-op in front of this space shuttle hull, so he arrives with his entire official entourage. Of course, being a dream, he looked absolutely nothing like George Bush. He was really old, for starters. At least 80. This makes everything even more exciting for us, so we all scramble to get our picture taken with the president. I am still the photographer. But somehow I never manage to successfully take the picture. First, not everyone was in the shot. So I had them all scrunch closer together and tried again. But then the hull had moved, had shifted down somehow, so that it wasn't in the picture at all. Now that's no good. I remember having everyone move around to a different side of it, so I could try from a different angle, but I'm not sure how that worked out. It was at about that time that my subconscious became bored and switched to a different dream....
