HELLO, My name is...
So I've decided to start a weblog... Welcome to my life. This is meant mainly for my friends. Since I'm such a horrendous correspondent, I figure maybe posting my thoughts and experiences online and letting you guys read them will be almost like keeping in touch. It should also function as an excellent sleep aid for all you insomniacs out there.
Yeah. If any of you wonder what grad school is really like, or at least, what it's really like for me, here you are! So far I've had one week of classes. They all seem pretty cool, as far as classes go =). It's totally intimidating though. I'm the youngest person in my program. Ecologists tend to take time off and do incredible, meaningful things with their lives before continuing their education. And here's little old me. Fresh out of undergrad. Done nothing meaningful, or even exciting with my life. And a good number of people know exactly what project they're going to work on, exactly what to write their thesis on. Gosh. I only know what I'm interested in. Let me qualify that. I know what I'm interested in right now... But there are others like me, and for that I'm grateful. There are also a couple of students who are taxonomic wizzes. They can identify anything, flora or fauna, you put in front of them. Intimidating? I think so! I wish I had those skills! I can only hope to acquire them during my tenure here. And to add to all of these feelings of inadequacy and insignificance, the place is huge! It's over twice as large as my undergraduate institute, which wasn't so puny itself. There are thousands of kamikaze bikers aiming at me! Oh boy.
But my daddy thinks I'm smart.... And someone on the admissions committee must have, otherwise I wouldn't be here. Right? So I should be fine. Right? I just need a little time to settle in, to "find my passion" as Condy exhorted us to do as froshies... We'll see how it goes!
